BayouBid Location Codes

Our standardized location tagging system for consistent geographic identification

Why Use Location Codes?

On BayouBid, using structured location codes helps both sellers and buyers to quickly identify the geographical context of a listing. Our standardized system ensures consistency across all platforms and makes items more discoverable.

Listings with proper location codes have 68% more views and are 3x more likely to be included in local search results compared to listings with generic location descriptions.

Location Code Structure

Our location code system follows a standardized format that combines components in a consistent order:

Standard Format:

#City + StateCode + CountryCode

Example Breakdown:

#HoustonTXUS
Houston = City name TX = Texas (state code) US = United States (country code)

Rules to Follow:

  • No spaces between components
  • Capital letters at the start of each component
  • Standard abbreviations for states and countries (2-letter codes)
  • Use full city name without abbreviations
  • For cities with multiple words, remove spaces (e.g., #NewYorkNYUS, #SanFranciscoCAUS)
  • Always include the # symbol at the beginning

Frequently Asked Questions

For cities with multiple words, remove all spaces and capitalize the first letter of each word. For example, "San Francisco" becomes "SanFrancisco" in the location code, resulting in #SanFranciscoCAUS.

State/province codes are required for countries with well-established state/province systems like the US, Canada, and Australia. For other countries, you can skip the state code and just use city and country (e.g., #LondonUK, #ParisFR).

Yes, for items available in multiple locations, you can include up to three location codes. For shipping available nationwide, you can add #NationwideUS alongside your specific city code.
